About the bake
Bread machine recipes don't have to stop at just plain white and wholemeal loaves (although these are super yummy too) You can make magic with your bread maker crafting a more 'adult' offering of dark beer bread with walnuts.
This loaf also creates the most divine ploughman sandwich, you can thank us later...
Which beer is best for dark beer bread?
Brown ale, lagers, and porters will all work nicely. Let the beer come to room temperature, or close to it.
Method
Step 1:
Put the ingredients into the bread maker baking pan in the order specified for your particular model (see manufacturer’s handbook).
Step 2:
Set to the basic white program. Add the walnuts at the time for added ingredients, as directed by the manufacturer of your machine.
Step 3:
Remove the dough from machine and knead again until smooth. Shape the dough into a circle.
Step 4:
Place onto a greased baking sheet and leave to prove until double in size.
Step 5:
Cut a deep cross into the top of the loaf and decorate with walnuts.
Step 6:
Bake at 190°C (170°C fan, 375°F, gas mark 5) for 30 minutes.

Recipe Reviews
Made it without a machine and kneaded by hand for 10 mins. Didn't rise much and baked result was mostly inedible. The few cooked bits around the edges I tried were too salty. I used Old Tom ale.
Fantastic bread, I made into sticks and ate with cheese and pickle.
